I'm talking to you. Will you protect the culture?
Will you tell the stories of your family, their family and their family?
Will you preserve the portraits and albums of black lives being lived?
Will you honor the creations of your family and their family and their family?
Will you create new images for the descendants?
Will you create new art for the descendants?
Will you create new innovation for the descendants?
Will you carry traditions of the past to the present and future?
Will you carry history of the past to the present and future?
Make your choice.
Welcome Guardian!
There is much work to be done. Culture and community are in danger and I am asking you to help protect it. How you ask? Become a Guardian! A Guardian of the Culture. We are gathering on April 30, 2022 to create an experience celebrating the past, present and future of the African diaspora. Showcasing how beauty and innovation can create amazing experiences including being the architects of the Give Sanctuary event itself. We are looking for creators, skills, talent, space, in kind donations and anyone looking to preserve and protect.
Please stay tuned for exciting opportunities like:
Give Sanctuary Community Meetings and the Build the Sanctuary Workshop
Art Installations
Demonstrations - From cooking to science

Why am I sharing?
I have been seeking a meaningful #connection with my community long before the pandemic. I long for the very specific feeling I get when I recall the events and celebrations growing up a little black girl in #Augusta, Georgia. But the thing is, it's a feeling that I know so many of you can relate to.
Here's the feeling I want Give Sanctuary to give to you.
Imagine the sound of a live local band playing to a small crowd of church hat-wearing elders in a prayer #circle. Kids laughing and running through crowds with fragrant aromas from international cuisines. There's an African drum #circle playing soundtrack to a 3D printer demonstration of an African mask being made. Wise archivists giving local history lessons to the backdrop of art created by the descendants of those history makers. It's whatever we make it!
Look forward to this journey with you. It's hard work but I know it's #necessary.

Show them who U are.
